Steven Pinkowski (Commercial Director)
It is important to be aware that a carrier’s insurance only protects against its contractual or legal liabilities arising from its Trading Conditions, which invariably impose a limitation per ton. In the case of hauliers in the UK, this is normally £1,300 per ton, which in most cases is insufficient to cover the cost of goods. A carrier’s conditions of carriage might mean that claims for loss or damage might become time barred three days after delivery. Furthermore carriers or their insurers may be based overseas, leading to inevitable problems in obtaining recompense. The bottom line is do not rely on carriers; make sure you have adequate cargo insurance. Or better still ask us to make sure that you are covered.
